ALY is for youth, the powerful people in our world who hold the future in their hands.
Young people face unique challenges in taking action for animals. We have less independence as well as more school and personal commitments to balance along with our activism.
As a young person it can also feel very hard to be heard. Discouraging, unsupportive, judgemental, belittling and aggressively ‘anti-vegan’ attitudes from parents, teachers and peers are common factors that discourage many potential young activists from standing up for the rights of animals.
ALY hopes to form a supportive and active community where youth from around Australia and the world can find relevant information through social media content, talk to each other, ask questions, vent about issues, frustrations and upsets that come with the awareness of the harsh realities vegan activists face, as well as join in with planned meet up and activism events.
With the creation of a Facebook group and Instagram (@animalliberationyouth), ALY, run by Animal Liberation Victoria volunteers and fellow young activists, we hope to create helpful and inclusive content that encourages youth to keep on standing up for what is right. We hope to not only have a social media based community, but also a community that can meet in real life, help form friendships and the next generation of activists.
We hope to create positive, safe, important and truly effective actions full of young people. We believe that young people are incredibly powerful, and deserve, in fact need a space to be heard. What matters to the youth of today will greatly shape the world for future generations.
If you are interested in getting involved with ALY, you can find us on Facebook under Animal Liberation Youth and on Instagram as @animalliberationyouth.
We hope to work with you all towards a more compassionate future!
