Australia's Biggest MOURNING Tea - Your help needed!
When: Thursday 27th May at 7.45am
Where: Meeting outside of Flinders Street Station
The Australia's Biggest Mourning Tea demo will be taking place again in 2010 to educate the public about cancer research funded animal experimentation.
"Australia's Biggest MOURNING Tea" mourns the animals who have been killed in in the name of cancer research - as well as the countless humans who would be alive today if valid research had actually been carried out.
Join in and help us hand out information to the public letting them know what their donations are paying for - Cancer Council funded animal experiments as well as details of approved humane charities who don't experiment on animals. We will have Haephestus the smoking dog to remind people about the cruel reality of animal experimentation.
Please also take a minute to contact The Cancer Council and inform that you will be withholding donations whilst they continue to carry out irrelevant and cruel experiments on animals.
2009 Action Against Cancer Council Animal Testing
Thursday 28 May, 2009

Animal Liberation Youth was out on the streets adding their support to 'Australia's Biggest Mourning Tea' a demo organised by Doug Leith to open peoples eyes to the cruelty behind cancer research. ALY activists gathered in Federation Square and in front of Flinders Street Station on Thursday 28th May. They leafleted the public about the cruel and senseless animal experiments and informed people that their generous and kind hearted donations to the annual 'Biggest Morning Tea' cancer appeal will actually be used to fund animal pain, suffering and death.
ALY handed out over a thousand leaflets containing information about vivisection including the Preferred Products List (PPL) produced by Choose Cruelty Free. PPL is an excellent booklet containing information about products not tested on animals. PPL is an important resource for buying vegan and cruelty free products. .

Doug brought along a hard-hitting model of a laboratory dog (inside a cage with a cigarette mask strapped to her face) to attract attention. The dog model simulates what smoking experiments can look like and what animals, in particular dogs, go through for cancer research - in this case to study lung cancer in smokers.
Members of the public were very responsive and incredibly shocked when shown the facts about vivisection. ALY helped draw much needed attention to the plight of lab animals.
