CALENDAR OF EVENTS
February 8 (Thursday) ALV is taking part in a protest against the Canadian seal hunt at the Canadian Roadshow for Travel Agents this Thursday from 5.30pm. The protest will occur at the Grand Hyatt at 123 Collins Street in the city and is aimed at letting Canadians know that the world is watching them, and informing our travel agents about Canada's barbaric seal 'hunt', the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals in the world (over one million baby harp seals have been slaughtered in the last three years, many of these babies were skinned alive). February 11 (Sunday) ALV will be having a stall at the Midsumma Carnival at Treasury Gardens from 10am to 6pm on Su!
nday February 11. The Carnival is the premier event of the Midsumma festival, Melbourne's gay and lesbian community celebration. Carnival entry cost is $5 donation at the gate. If you can help at the ALV stall please contact tim@alv.org.au.
February 13 (Tuesday) ALV members representing the International Anti-Fur Coalition will be holding a protest against the Chinese fur industry on Tuesday February 11 at the Chinese Consulate, located at 75-77 Irving Road, Toorak. The protest will run from 11am until 12 noon. Over half of the world's fur today is produced by China, a country with no animal welfare laws where millions of dogs and cats are killed for fur every year. Undercover video investigations (WARNING: extreme!
ly graph
ic footage) have shown fur farm workers skinning animals alive without concern for their pain, and leaving them to a slow and agonizing death. If you are not able to make it to the demonstration, please call (9822 0604) or fax (9822 0320) the Chinese Consulate on February 13 to urge them to stop killing dogs and cats for fur. Please be polite and respectful in your communications with Consulate staff. February 16-18 (Friday to Sunday) ALV will be holding a three day stall at Federation Square from February 16-18 as part of the Sustainable Living Festival. The Sustainable Living Festival showcases a huge range of exhibitors, talks, workshops, art, films and performances celebrating and inspiring sustainable communities.
